The following is good advise for bird lovers regarding
parrot diet suppliments!
TREATS:Many pet bird owners do not realize that birds need more than water and seed for a well balanced diet. In the wild, birds eat fruit, greens and insects as swell as seeds. They fly to mineral licks and eat the dirt for the trace minerals. You will have a happier and healthier bird if you balance the diet. Parrot Paradise recommends you mix our Dyna-Diet™ gourmet granules and Polly's treasures into your daily feed.
Give your bird some fresh fruits or vegetables every day. Here is a list of some popular fruits and vegetables:

Protein can be supplied by giving the birds cooked rice and beans, hard-boiled egg including the shell, bird pellets, or meal worms (the latter two should be available at most pet stores).Nuts such as almonds or walnuts can be used but remember they also have a lot of fat which is not good for birds. Small amounts of lean cooked meat (beef, poultry, fish) are also good sources of protein.
Minerals and vitamins can be supplied through sprinkle-on-powder or water-soluble "Nekton" vitamins, cuttlebone, oyster shell or mineralite. You can also give them the egg shell from your eggs.(Make sure you boil the egg shell before giving it to your pet).
You can take some bird seed and sprout it and feed the
tender shoots to your birds. 
Unlevened
home-made breads with whole grains in them are a good occasional treat and many birds love
pasta ( tip -pizza crust and regular bread contains too much yeast which leads to
infections).
NO NO's: Chocolate, rhubarb and avocado are POISONOUS to birds. Iceberg lettuce is very watery and can cause diarrhea in birds. Coffee and alcohol are also very bad. Candy, cakes, cookies and other sugary sweets are also unhealthy for birds.
SOME BIRDS ARE NOT SEEDEATERS. Birds in this category are called softbills and include Lories, Lorikeets, Toucans, Toucanettes and Mynah birds. Despite their large beaks, toucans cannot crack seeds or nuts. There are special formulated nectars and diets for these birds that also need lots of soft fruits and vegetables. Check with a local pet store or your vet.
Summary: Don't be surprised if your bird turns his beak
up at new foods at first. He probably doesn't recognize it. You may want to remove his
regular seed and place the fruits/vegetables in place of the seed for a couple of hours.
Or, you can mix the fresh food with the Dyna-Diet granules and let them forge. After a
while you will have your cockatiel or parrot begging for a fresh fruit or veges' every day
to supplement their basic diet.
